3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive 8005 is one of our 10:1 ratio, two-part acrylic based adhesive specially formulated to bond many low surface energy plastics. It will adhere many grades of polypropylene, polyethylene, and thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE`s) without special surface preparation.
No Prep Adhesion Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive 8005 was designed to handle adhesion problems typically associated with the bonding of low surface energy plastics. In addition to various plastics, it will also bond a variety of other dissimilar substrates ranging from metals, rubber, glass, ceramics and wood in a one-step process with minimal or no surface preparation. However, all substrates should be clean, dry and free of paint, oxide films, oils, dust, mold release agents and other surface contaminants. Bond Quickly with Confidence This adhesive is a medium viscosity structural adhesive with good control and spread to sufficiently wet out the surface when applied. With a 10:1 mix ratio it provides a 3 minute work life. Handling strength is reached in approximately 3 hours and the adhesive will fully cure in 24 hours at room temperature (72°F /22°C.) Once bonded this adhesive features excellent water and humidity resistance while maintaining very good chemical resistance. It is an effective system for joining, potting and structural bonding, and can replace screws, rivets, plastic welding and two-step processes which include chemical etchants, priming or surface treatments in many applications. Recommended Applications Joining plastics to metals, such as in the manufacture or repair of appliances Bonding low surface energy plastics without priming Impact resistance composite bonding Manufacture or repair of various sporting goods equipment Low surface energy plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene and thermosplastic elastomers (TPE's Adhere with Acrylic Acrylic adhesives are two-part adhesives that provide excellent bond strength and durability, although slightly lower than epoxy adhesives. However, they have several features that make them easier to use, including a much faster cure speed, higher tolerance for oily or unprepared bonding surfaces and the ability to bond a wide variety of materials, including nearly all plastics. Newer acrylic adhesive formulations are room temperature stable with a long shelf.
